– Chris Davis (8-for-24, three HRs) and Matt Wieters (11-for-31, three doubles, four homers) have both crushed Ivan Nova over their careers. Adam Jones (8-for-37, eight Ks) hasn’t been as fortunate.
– Matt Kemp is only 14-for-59 (.237) lifetime against Matt Cain, but nine of those hits have gone for extra bases, including four homers.
– Daniel Murphy is 17-for-53 (.321) with five doubles and three homers lifetime against Jordan Zimmermann. Teammate Lucas Duda hasn’t fared nearly as well, managing just seven hits (five singles, two doubles) in 32 at-bats.
– Look for Chris Coghlan (9-for-13, five XBHs) and Anthony Rizzo (10-for-27, four XBHs) to get off to fast starts against Mike Leake in Game 1 of the Cubs-Reds doubleheader. Teammates Anthony Rizzo (.951 OPS vs. LHP this year) and Kris Bryant (.900) should perform well in Game 2 against lefty Tony Cingrani.
– Another lefty for the A’s (Felix Doubront) means Josh Phegley (.939 OPS vs. LHP this year) and Brett Lawrie (.875) have added value if they’re in the lineup. It also means Ike Davis (.357), Josh Reddick (.464) and Stephen Vogt (.673) will either be liabilities or on the bench.
– Brian Dozier (.863 OPS vs. LHP this year) is a must-own against lefty C.J. Wilson, and Torii Hunter has fared well against Wilson in his career (11-for-36, two HRs). Be careful with Joe Mauer, who’s just 3-for-28 with 10 Ks against Wilson.
– Julio Teheran has been knocked around by lefties this year (.304/.386/.479), so give Joc Pederson, Adrian Gonzalez, Yasmani Grandal, and Andre Ethier a little extra consideration.
– Adeiny Hechavarria (1.006 OPS vs. LHP this year) is a solid play against lefty Robbie Ray today, and J.T. Realmuto (.874) is a cheap option at catcher. Steer clear of Justin Bour (.564), though.
– With John Danks on the mound against the Cardinals, fire up Randall Grichuk (.866 OPS vs. LHP this year), Matt Holliday (.827) and Jhonny Peralta (.802). It’s also a good time to give Matt Carpenter (.585) a day off.
– Kyle Lohse has some pretty noticeable reverse-platoon splits against righties (.311/.346/.530), giving Cleveland’s key righties some extra value.
– Mike Montgomery has pitched well this year, but Detroit features a bunch of lefty-killers, including Victor Martinez (1.054 OPS vs. LHP this season), Jose Iglesias (.982), James McCann (.967), J.D. Martinez (.871), and Rajai Davis (.808).
– The Rockies are set to face lefty Martin Perez in Colorado, so that means another day of high ownership for Troy Tulowitzki (1.026) and Wilin Rosario (.973 for his career). Avoid Carlos Gonzalez (.404).
– Lefties have been killing James Shields all year (.288/.365/.546), so Joe Panik, Brandon Belt, Brandon Crawford, and Angel Pagan have extra value.
– Evan Longoria (.899 OPS vs. LHP this year) and Steven Souza Jr. (.866) have been great against lefties this year, so have them in your lineups against southpaw Adam Morgan.
