Adam Wainwright takes mound at daughter’s softball game after pitching machine breaks
The pitching machine broke Monday night at an 8-and-under softball game, which wouldn’t spectacularly thrilling news if not for what happened next. St. Louis Cardinals ace Adam Wainwright, whose daughter plays one of the teams, came out from the stands and pitched.

Wainwright is out of the season with a torn Achilles in his left foot. His pitching arm, meanwhile, should go unaffected by some slow, underhanded tosses. Here’s a photo from relayed by Matt Sebek, who you may know from JoeSportsFan and The Rookie App.
When the picture started to circulate on Tuesday, Wainwright quipped on Twitter: “I told everyone I’d play again this year!”
