The Angels were rained out at home for the first time since 1995
Fans that showed up to Angel Stadium in Anaheim for Sunday night’s scheduled game between the Los Angeles Angels and the Boston Red Sox were treated to – well maybe that’s not the right way to put it – but they did witness something that hadn’t happened at the stadium in 20 years: a rainout.
Before Sunday’s tilt was called on account of a water-logged field, the last time the Angels were rained out at home was June 16, 1995. That’s a span of 1,609 home games between home rainouts. It was also just the 11th rainout since the Angels moved to Orange County in 1966.
They would have preferred to have a game to play, but at least the Angels social media team tried to have some fun with the unusual circumstance:

According to Angels manager Mike Scioscia, the main issue was that all the rain from the Tropical Storm Dolores that hit Southern California over the weekend had nowhere to go.
“Unfortunately, you never know how your drainage system works until you get enough water, and there is so much standing water in the outfield that has nowhere to go,” Scioscia said. “The field is unplayable with no way to remedy it.
“I’m not a landscaper, but I don’t think it’s ever been tested like this. It’s a lot of rain. I don’t think anything is clogged. It’s just saturated.”
Sounds like reasonable analysis, but then again Scioscia did say he’s not a landscaper.
The Angels and Red Sox will play a day-night double-header Monday.
