Pellegrini hints at more City spending
Manuel Pellegrini has hinted Manchester City’s summer spending is not over despite reaching the £70 million mark, though refused to comment on potential moves for Sergio Ramos and Kevin De Bruyne.
The former Premier League champions have made four signings so far with Turkish striker Enes Unal arriving for £2m and Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling for what could prove a club-record £49m fee.
Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph joined for £8m on Friday before City brought in Fulham’s young forward Patrick Roberts on Sunday for a sum that could rise to £11m.
Besides Sterling, City’s other two main summer targets were Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba — although their interest in the Frenchman has cooled — and Belgium international De Bruyne.
However, Wolfsburg manager Dieter Hecking said at the weekend that he was confident of keeping the former Chelsea player for at least a further year.
City have also been linked with Real Madrid defender Ramos, who was the subject of a €40m bid from Manchester United.
Pellegrini did not want to be drawn on individuals at a news conference in Australia, saying: “I don’t talk about names or rumours and positions.”
But he added: “You’ll just have to see who arrives here. Our aim is to have a strong squad.”
City, who have beaten Adelaide United and Melbourne City in their first two preseason friendlies, will face Roma on Tuesday with Sterling set to make his debut.
