The Eye: Last starts for Cueto, Hamels?
With the non-waiver trade deadline coming in 12 days, several players are likely to be playing their final games with their current teams. Among them, right-hander Johnny Cueto of the Reds (for now), who has one or two starts max with his team, if general manager Walt Jocketty can find a trade partner. Our own Jon Heyman speculates as to whom that partner night be. Cueto, whose team takes on the Indians on Sunday, isn’t the only one wondering: left-hander Cole Hamels of the Phillies has been on trade alert running on two seasons now.
Johnny Cueto — Royals pitcher? (USATSI)
Rival executives say the Royals are pushing hard for Cueto, but I wonder at some point if the OF needs will trump desire for another SP.

A suggestion for the Royals: Both need upgrading.
Also, as The Good Phight notes here, James Shields of the Padres also is on the trade market, and probably won’t cost as much in the way of prospects in a return. Ah, trade season.
Welcome to the Eye, something of a one-stop-shop for the happenings in Major League Baseball today.
It’s Star Wars Day at Nationals Park, so everybody got new bats in order to celebrate:
