Padres, MLB unveil 2016 All-Star game logo
With the second half of the 2015 regular season underway, it’s officially time to turn the page on an exciting and newsworthy All-Star week in Cincinnati.
It’s also time to put at least some focus on the 2016 Midsummer Classic, which will be hosted by San Diego’s Petco Park. On Friday, the Padres and Major League Baseball started that promotional campaign by releasing the official logo for the event.
And there it is.

Hopefully you weren’t expecting something mind-blowing or completely original. It’s actually rather basic in its design and its resemblance to the Padres logo, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.
We know when. We know where. The only thing that isn’t made clear here is that despite a National League city hosting the event, the American League will be treated as the home team. It’s a detail that won’t immediately come to mind for most fans, but should probably be driven home at some point before the event as to avoid as much confusion as possible.
Unless, of course, those in the MLB marketing department would rather not acknowledge this odd new twist to the All-Star game. In that case, we completely understand.
That aside, we’re sure the league has a marketing strategy in mind for that. Perhaps the logo isn’t the place if they’re focusing on San Diego, but it’s certainly a quirk in the event worth acknowledging.
We’ve also learned of the league’s desire to take this All-Star events beyond the city limits and into Mexico, where they hope to continue growing their brand globally.
What that all entails will sorted out in the months ahead, but there’s obviously a plan and a goal to make the 2016 All-Star week a wide-ranging event on multiple levels.
Removing the nitpicking about all forms of home-field advantage in All-Star game scenario, we’ll be looking forward to what San Diego has to offer.
