Chronicles of Stanley: Corey Crawford and the man with the Blackhawks tattoo (on his head)
The Chronicles of Stanley is an occasional series this summer that tracks the Chicago Blackhawks as they each get their special alone time with the Stanley Cup.
HOW YOU LIKE ME NOW?!
For his day with the Cup, Corey Crawford took the chalice back to Howard S. Billings Regional High School in Châteauguay, Québec.
“I’m really proud to be from Chateauguay,” Crawford told the crowd. “I’ve met a lot of great people over the years. A lot of people have helped me out through my career. I just want to say thank you and I really appreciate it.”
(No word as to if the real reason why the Blackhawks netminder brought the Cup specifically to his high school to impress his old crush or shove it in the face of his former nemesis, as all high school related movies would have us believe.)
The one they call ‘The Crow’ stuck around for three hours as fans filtered through to have their picture with the Cup and their beloved native son.
Take a look at the yearbook photo of Crawford on his hockey team on the right-hand side of the page. He’s in the bottom picture labeled ‘Juvenile.’ In the front row, see the tiny goalie in massive pads on the right? That’s Corey Crawford.
Although the occasion was exciting for Crawford, it wasn’t nearly as profitable as his time with the Cup in 2013. He started that day by inking a six-year extension. Much to Stan Bowman’s relief, that’s one of the contracts he doesn’t have to deal with at the moment.
While Quebec was a flutter with Crawford and Stanley’s arrival, the show was stolen by one man:
Now THAT’S dedication to your team. And an awesome mustache.
