SATURDAY
– The Royals’ Lorenzo Cain (.871 OPS), Mike Moustakas (.934) and Salvador Perez (1.061) have all enjoyed facing White Sox LHP Jose Quintana.
– Orioles C Matt Wieters has strong numbers against David Price, going 15-for-41 (.366) with seven extra-base hits (.585 SLG) off the Tigers’ ace.
– Brewers OF Carlos Gomez is 10-for-21 (.476) with four extra-base hits (2 HR) against Pirates LHP Francisco Liriano.
– Rays 3B Evan Longoria is sporting a .904 OPS in 37 career at-bats against the Blue Jays’ R.A. Dickey. However, Kevin Kiermaier is just 3-for-16 (.188) against the knuckleballer.
– White Sox SS Alexei Ramirez is just 8-for-50 (.160) lifetime against the Royals’ Jeremy Guthrie, but Melky Cabrera (14-for-41, 7 XBH) has had success against him.
– Normally we like Twins 2B Brian Dozier against a lefty, but he’s just 2-for-22 (.091) in his career against Oakland’s Scott Kazmir (triceps).
– The A’s Ben Zobrist is just 1-for-20 (.050) against Twins starter Phil Hughes.
– The Nationals’ Ian Desmond (3-for-23, 7 Ks) and Danny Espinosa (1-for-10, 5 Ks) aren’t smart plays against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw.
SUNDAY
– The Yankees’ Mark Teixeira (20-for-66, 10 XBH, 6 HR), Brett Gardner (10-for-29, 2 2B) and Jacoby Ellsbury (9-for-28, 2 HR) have hit Mariners ace Felix Hernandez well and could be smart, contrarian plays, especially in Yankee Stadium.
– Not only has Royals OF Lorenzo Cain been better against lefties this year, he’s also 14-for-40 (.350) with five extra-base hits in his career against White Sox LHP Chris Sale. Alcides Escobar (18-for-48) and Salvador Perez (12-for-40) could also be worth a look.
– Blue Jays OF Jose Bautista is just 2-for-26 (.077) against Rays ace Chris Archer.
– The Giants are facing D-backs LHP Patrick Corbin, so cue up lefty-killer Brandon Crawford once again. Also, Hunter Pence is 9-for-19 (.474) with three homers, two doubles and a triple against Corbin.
– Orioles Adam Jones and Matt Wieters are a combined 9-for-55 (.164) with 13 Ks against the Tigers’ Justin Verlander.
– Usually Tigers OF Rajai Davis is just a play against lefties, but he has three jacks in just 12 at-bats against Orioles RHP Miguel Gonzalez.
– Nationals SS Ian Desmond is hitless in 10 at-bats against the Dodgers’ Zack Greinke.
– Cardinals OF Jason Heyward is 9-for-28 (.321) with two homers and two doubles against Mets LHP Jon Niese.
– Padres OF Justin Upton is 11-for-29 (.379) with three homers and three doubles against struggling Rockies starter Kyle Kendrick.
– Very small sample, but Braves catcher A.J. Pierzynski is 6-for-8 with a pair of homers off the Cubs’ Jake Arrieta.
– Deep sleepers: The Marlins’ Adeiny Hechavarria and J.T. Realmuto have been crushing lefties, and draw Phillies LHP Cole Hamels in Citizens Bank Park.
