Expert picks: 144th British Open Championship | Devil Ball Golf – Yahoo Sports – Yahoo Sports (blog)
It’s almost go time. The 144th British Open starts less than 12 hours from now, and that’s when Jordan Spieth‘s quest for a third consecutive major this season begins in earnest.
So, will Spieth win or can another player spoil the journey to the single-season Grand Slam? The Yahoo Sports team weighs in with their picks.
Jay Hart: Louis Oosthuizen – When last St. Andrews hosted the Open, Oosthuizen was lifting the Claret Jug, winning by a comfy seven strokes. That, and I like a guy who can follow up an opening round 77 with 66-66-67, as Oosthuizen did last month at the U.S. Open when he wound up finishing second.
Jay Busbee: Rickie Fowler – He’s coming off a clutch win at the Scottish Open, he’s on the right side of the draw to avoid Friday’s weather nightmare, and he’s ascending in exactly the right way – Calu but relentlessly. Big money’s on Jordan Spieth, but give me the other millennial.
Ryan Ballengee: Rickie Fowler – I originally went with Spieth. However, with a weather forecast indicating nasty, gusty winds late on Friday, this may come down to the luck of the draw. If that’s the case, Rickie Fowler is the most qualified player to win.
- Louis Oosthuizen
- Jordan Spieth
- Rickie Fowler
