The Open Championship starts soon, and Graham DeLaet just got his clubs
ST. ANDREWS, Scotland — And you thought your lost-luggage story was bad.
Imagine a NASCAR driver without his steering wheel. An NFL player without his helmet. A baseball player without his bat. Now you’re getting an idea of the teeth-grinding agony that Graham DeLaet went through for more than two days waiting for his clubs to arrive.
Thankfully for DeLaet, the clubs arrived just two days before he was scheduled to tee off at St. Andrews. At long last:
Aer Lingus had lost the clubs, and DeLaet had to hit the equipment trucks in order to come up with at least a partially workable set. He also took to Twitter to vent his frustration at not being able to play with his own clubs, and Twitter being Twitter, the clowns piled out of the circus tent:
Painful sidelight: this isn’t the first time this has happened to DeLaet this year. United lost his clubs on the way to the Honda Classic. Dude, it might be time to start dressing your clubs like a kid and buying them their own seat.
Epilogue: When DeLaet went to take his clubs out of his bag, he was delighted to find that the protein powder he’d had within apparently didn’t travel so well:
