Rangers sign Emerson Etem to one-year, $850K deal
You can take Emerson Etem off Jeff Gorton’s list of restricted free agents to sign for the New York Rangers. The 23-year old forward accepted his qualifying offer on Tuesday for $850,500, per Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News.
Etem was acquired from the Anaheim Ducks last month in exchange for fellow RFA Carl Hagelin, who remains unsigned.
Etem scored five times and recorded 10 points in 45 games with the Ducks last season. He also chipped in three goals in 12 playoff games.
“Whatever role Alain [Vigneault] and the coaching staff ask of me, I am ready to fill that role,” said Etem to the Rangers’ website earlier this month. “I am looking to have a big year. This is something I want to take full advantage of, and I’m going to do everything it takes to be at my best.”
Earlier on Tuesday the Rangers signed RFA Oscar Lindberg, leaving Dylan McIlrath, Mat Bodie, J.T. Miller, Jesper Fast and, of course, Derek Stepan still left waiting for new deals.
