Watch 7-foot Andre Drummond bowl a strike atop a Sky Walker (Video)
Andre Drummond is basically Josh Baskin.
For those unfamiliar with the 1988 film “Big,” first of all: Shame on you. Second of all, Baskin is a 12-year-old boy who wishes on a Zoltar machine to be big, and when said wish comes true, comedy ensues in the form of Silly String, a foot-operated electronic keyboard and bunk beds. Good times all around, really.
So, when a 7-foot Drummond bowls a strike while riding a Sky Walker — basically a Segway without handles or a more affordable version of J.R. Smith’s PhunkeeDuck, if that clears it up — the childlike wonder of a grown man elicits memories of Tom Hanks bouncing on a trampoline inside his apartment.
This is the same guy who took a Nickelodeon star to laser tag on their first date, played the bongos to rehab a sore back, shared a picture on social media of himself driving 26 miles per hour over the speed limit sans seatbelt and attended a high school prom just six weeks ago, so this Baskin-esque activity comes as no surprise. Granted, he’s still just 21 years old, but let’s not rule out Zoltar’s role in this.
Considering, as Bleacher Report’s Thomas Duffy astutely points out, once promising big man Andrew Bynum injured his knee while bowling, perhaps Drummond is secretly some sort of medical genius, avoiding any unwanted stress on his lower extremities by bowling his strikes atop a Sky Walker.
Or at least that’s the rationale he can offer as the Pistons begin negotiations on a contract extension with their franchise player. Just don’t forget to add a “bowling while Sky Walking” clause in that max deal.
The real question, though, is whether Reggie Jackson is the Billy Kopecki to Drummond’s Baskin? Let’s just hope this results in them singing “Shimmy Shimmy Cocoa Puff” after his next alley-oop dunk.
