Pistons acquire PG Blake in trade with Nets
The Brooklyn Nets have traded Steve Blake to the Detroit Pistons in exchange for Quincy Miller, the Nets announced Monday.
Blake, whom the Nets had acquired in a draft-night trade, is slated to make $2.2 million next season. Miller has a non-guaranteed deal, so the move appears to be a salary dump.
Blake, 35, provides the Pistons insurance in the backcourt behind Reggie Jackson and Brandon Jennings, who is recovering from season-ending surgery on his Achilles tendon.
Before the trade to Brooklyn, Blake had returned to the Portland Trail Blazers for a third time last summer, signing a two-year deal with a player option worth $4.2 million. A 12-year veteran, he has played for seven teams in his career: the Washington Wizards, Blazers, Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks, Los Angeles Clippers, Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors.
A 6-foot-3 point guard out of Maryland, Blake was selected 38th overall by the Wizards in 2003. Last season with Portland, he appeared in 81 games, averaging 4.3 points and 3.6 assists in 18.9 minutes per game backing up All-Star Damian Lillard.
A fan favorite in Portland, Blake changed his number on Feb. 20 from 25 to 5 as a tribute to longtime Blazers forward Jerome Kersey, who had died two days prior.
Blake holds career averages of 6.7 points and 4.0 assists in 812 games.
