Daily Fantasy Baseball 2015: Best MLB Position Player Picks for July 12 … – Bleacher Report
Sunday is the last day on the Major League Baseball schedule before the All-Star break. That’s as good a time as any to make some money with a solid DraftKings lineup. The Detroit Tigers are a team to depend on come Sunday, but the best option isn’t in Motown.
The automatic selection among position players has to be the Boston Red Sox’s Pablo Sandoval. The Panda absolutely owns the New York Yankees’ Nathan Eovaldi, and he’ll have the pleasure of facing the hard-throwing right-hander on Sunday.
In 17 at-bats against Eovaldi, Sandoval is hitting a sizzling .706. That’s not a misprint. It’s almost comical how well Sandoval has done against the 25-year-old. One of Sandoval’s 12 hits off of Eovaldi was a home run, and he’s driven in 10 runs in the matchup.
You have to pick Sandoval—especially for just $3,400 in DK salary.
Position | Player | Opponent | SALARY |
C | Tyler Flowers | Chicago Cubs | $2,900 |
1B | Joe Mauer | Detroit Tigers | $4,000 |
2B | Ian Kinsler | Minnesota Twins | $4,400 |
3B | Pablo Sandoval | New York Yankees | $3,400 |
SS | Jose Reyes | Kansas City Royals | $4,400 |
OF | J.D. Martinez | Minnesota Twins | $5,100 |
OF | Yoenis Cespedes | Minnesota Twins | $4,800 |
Salaries per DraftKings, picks by Mazique
The Tigers are on the road against the Minnesota Twins. Detroit has dropped the first two games of the series and will come out swinging to avoid dropping three straight. The Twins will send Kyle Gibson to the mound to engineer the sweep.
There are three players in the Tigers lineup who’ll have a chance to stop that.

Ian Kinsler is a nice choice at second base. He’s hitting .389 with a home run against Gibson in 18 at-bats. Kinsler has also been swinging a hot bat overall.
He’s four for his last eight, and he’s averaged 19.5 fantasy points per game over his last two contests. His DK salary of $4,400 is worth the investment.

The red-hot J.D. Martinez is the second Tigers hitter to select. He’s taken Gibson deep twice in just 17 at-bats, and his batting average against him is even higher than Kinsler’s.
Martinez has hit .412 against the Twins’ 27-year-old right-hander. Like Kinsler, Martinez also comes into the game hitting well.
Few have been as hot as the Tigers right fielder this month. He’s hitting .381 with five home runs in July so far. Martinez will cost you $5,100 of salary, but he’s had double-digit fantasy-point outputs in six of his last 10 games.
Aside from Sandoval, he may be the best option to draft among position players.

Lastly, there is Yoenis Cespedes. He’s only had five at-bats against Gibson, but he’s averaged 10.8 fantasy points per game in his last 10 games. With his teammates seemingly set up to be on base, Cespedes should have a good opportunity to continue to produce.

We can’t forget about the player who might turn out to be one of the biggest bargains of the day. The Cincinnati Reds’ Marlon Byrd is available for just $3,800, and he has a great matchup. He’ll be facing the Miami Marlins’ Dan Haren.
Byrd has torn the cover off the ball against Haren in his career. In 30 at-bats, he is hitting .467 with nine extra-base hits. Three of those hits are home runs.
Byrd just had his nine-game hitting streak snapped, but he’s still hitting .361 over his last 10 games. He’ll fit nicely in your DK outfield with the Tigers.
