FSU's Cook turns self in on battery, bonds out
Florida State running back Dalvin Cook turned himself in to authorities on Friday night before bonding out.
A warrant was issued for Cook’s arrest on Friday and he was to be charged with misdemeanor battery (touch or strike) after allegedly punching a woman outside a Tallahassee bar.
A Leon County Jail official told CBSSports.com that, after turning himself in, Cook bonded out on a $500 bond at 8:37 p.m. local time. He has a court date set for July 30 at 8:30 a.m.
The running back was suspended indefinitely by Florida State on Friday.
According to the probable cause affidavit, Cook allegedly struck the woman after she shoved Seminoles receiver Travis Rudolph away after he got too close to her. Cook was then restrained, but managed to make his way toward the woman at least one more time. A witness at the scene could not identify Cook in a photographic lineup, but the alleged victim identified him with “100 percent certainty.”
The woman told ESPN that she suffered a split lip and other minor facial injuries after she refused to give Cook her phone number.
Cook said he cannot remember getting into an argument with anybody that night, and that he did not punch anyone.
Coach Jimbo Fisher released a statement Friday night addressing “recent events” involving his team that have brought a tremendous amount of attention to Florida State for all the wrong reasons.
“It is important to me that our fans and public be aware that I do not tolerate the type of behavior that was captured on video and that was most recently alleged,” he said in part. “We spend a good deal of time educating our student-athletes about appropriate behavior and their responsibilities as representatives of Florida State. The majority of our players are exemplary, but clearly we must place an even stronger emphasis on this, and I personally promise we will.”
