Report: FSU RB Dalvin Cook investigated for alleged battery
Florida State running back Dalvin Cook is reportedly being investigated for battery in an incident the day before former quarterback De’Andre Johnson punched a woman at a bar.
According to the Tallahassee Democrat, Cook is accused of punching a 21-year-old woman on June 23.
State Attorney Willie Meggs said Friday he has not brought any charges against Cook at this time, but the matter is still being reviewed.
In a heavily redacted police report obtained by the Tallahassee Democrat, the victim was listed as intoxicated and suffered minor abrasion/bruises from the incident, which occurred outside of Clyde’s & Costellos on South Adams Street.
The victim’s name and personal information were listed in the report, but the report does not have a suspect listed. The victim was able to identify the suspect to police.
The redactions in the police report are because of Florida’s public records law, per SBNation.
The report also says the woman plans to press charges. Cook was a major contributor for Florida State in 2014. He had 1,008 yards rushing and 203 yards receiving with eight touchdowns. He was a five-star recruit and the No. 18 recruit in the class of 2014 according to Rivals.
Johnson was dismissed on Monday after surveillance footage of the incident was released showing him punching a woman at a bar. Johnson is charged with misdemeanor battery. His lawyer said he was acting in self-defense while five FSU players have been subpeonaed in the case.
An ESPN report earlier in June said Florida State athletes escaped charges 70 percent of the time when named as suspects from 2009-2014.
Cook was also listed as an associate in an assault case in July 2014. The case involved two men who allegedly brandished a firearm to a neighbor.
