Eugenio Suarez attempts to field a ball that defies physics
Watch baseball long enough, and you’re bound to occasionally see things that defy logic. A ball once bounced off a player’s head and went for a home run. A pitcher once hit a bird with a pitch mid-flight. As unbelievable as these things sound, we’ve seen both of them.
Cincinnati Reds shortstop Eugenio Suarez became the latest player to be involved in a situation that seems hard to believe. During the fifth inning of Thursday’s game against the Miami Marlins, Dee Gordon stepped to the plate looking to get on base.

On the second pitch of the at-bat, Gordon hit a low line drive out near Suarez. After ranging to his left, Suarez made a diving attempt for the ball. He couldn’t catch it, though.
Instead, the ball hit near the bottom of Suarez’s glove. It then proceeded to somehow bounce on to his backside before rolling up his back. Gordon wound up picking up an infield single due to the bizarre play.
Suarez appeared to be perplexed at first before quickly coming back to his senses. That’s fairly impressive, considering physics briefly ceased to exist for a moment.

We also need to thank Suarez for exposing how Gordon has been able to carry a .395 BABIP the entire season. It’s now clear to us that he can occasionally manipulate the space time continuum. No wonder he made the All-Star team.
