Coach: Wall 'doing great' after hand, wrist injury
Washington Wizards point guard John Wall, after suffering a broken left hand/wrist on May 3, is “doing great” and should be ready for the start of next season, coach Randy Wittman said Thursday.
Wittman said Wall followed through on his stated plans to avoid surgery and let the five non-displaced fractures in his non-shooting hand/wrist heal through rest.
“He’s doing great,” Wittman told the Washington Times on Thursday. “He was just here [Wednesday] and came to practice and talked to our young guys here. I said, ‘Yeah, now you’re an old man.’ But, no, he’s healthy and no problems with the hand or anything else.”
Wall, who averaged 17.4 points and 11.9 assists in seven postseason games, suffered the injury after crashing down on his left wrist while trying to avoid Atlanta’s Jeff Teague on a breakaway during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
The All-Star starter averaged 17.6 points, 10.0 assists and 4.6 rebounds during the regular season.
