Report: Jason Pierre-Paul also has broken thumb
amputated, the New York Giants defensive end also has a broken thumb, according to multiple reports.
In addition to the reports of Jason Pierre-Paul having his right index fingerESPN’s Ed Werder reported Wednesday night that Pierre-Paul has multiple fractures in the thumb. Additionally, Kimberly Jones of NFL.com says the thumb had “pins inserted.” Both reported the thumb injury requires six weeks to heal.
All of Pierre-Paul’s injuries stem from a fireworks accident from the July 4th weekend and there is still no timetable for his return. The 26-year-old has yet to make a public statement since the incident.

Meanwhile, Pierre-Paul has yet to sign his franchise tag offer (a reported $14.8 million) from the Giants and thusly is not currently under contract with the team. New York reportedly rescinded a $60 million long-term offer off the table following the accident, but Pierre-Paul was unlikely to accept the offer before the July 15 extension deadline anyway.
Coming off a year where he put up 77 tackles and 12.5 sacks, it seems unlikely that the Giants would take Pierre-Paul’s franchise tender off the table altogether.
