Johnny Cueto adds a wiggle to his windup, throws a strike
Johnny Cueto is in such a groove on the mound these days, he’s comfortable grooving a little when he delivers a pitch to the plate.
The Cincinnati Reds right-hander was in the zone Tuesday night, pitching a two-hit complete game shutout and striking out 11 in a 5-0 win over the Washington Nationals, and he was at his swaggering best in the seventh inning.
Facing Nationals shortstop Ian Desmond with two outs and the count 0-1, Cueto added a shoulder wiggle to his mid-delivery pause. Desmond was completely baffled by Cueto’s dance and he watched the ball go right across the plate for a strike and would eventually go down looking.

Cueto even has a name for his new move: “La Mecedora,” or in English, “The Rocking Chair.”
With a 2.61 ERA this season, he can call it whatever he wants. It looks cool and it gets the job done.
The next few weeks weeks could be hectic for Cueto. He’s one of the five players on the ballot for the final spot on the NL All-Star team and he’s likely going to be traded by the Reds before the July 31 deadline as he is in the final year of his contract.
Wherever he ends up, and there’s a long list of teams interested, Cueto will be sure to keep “The Rocking Chair,” in his arsenal and continue to bewilder unexpecting big-league hitters with it.
