Denny Hamlin will start first at Dover
Denny Hamlin will lead the field to green at Dover on Sunday for the third time.
Hamlin was the fasted in the third round of Friday’s qualifying session, the 21st pole of his career. He’ll start alongside Martin Truex Jr. Hamlin ran a lap of 160.121 MPH while Truex ran a lap of 159.723 MPH.
Kyle Larson starts third, Matt Kenseth starts fourth and Joey Logano will start fifth.
It was the second straight week a Hendrick Motorsports car didn’t make the final round of qualifying. Jimmie Johnson will start 14th while Dale Earnhardt Jr. will start 16th.
Hamlin’s two other poles came in the fall of 2012 and the spring of 2013. He finished eighth in 2012 and was 34th in 2013 after a crash.
Points leader Kevin Harvick will start sixth and the possible resurgence of Roush Fenway Racing continued during Friday’s qualifying. Greg Biffle, who started second in the All-Star Race and finished second in the Coca-Cola 600, will start seventh and his teammate Ricky Stenhouse Jr. will start ninth.
