Reports: Gentry has second Pelicans interview
Alvin Gentry, the lead assistant for the Golden State Warriors, had a second interview with the New Orleans Pelicans for their vacant head-coaching position, according to multiple reports.
Gentry interviewed with Pelicans executive vice president Mickey Loomis and general manager Dell Demps on Friday, according to reports.
Sources tell ESPN’s Marc Stein that Gentry and Jeff Van Gundy, to this point, have separated themselves from a field that no longer includes Scott Skiles, who interviewed with the Pelicans earlier this week but on Friday was named Orlando Magic coach.
It remains unclear if the Pelicans will formally interview Tom Thibodeau in the wake of Thibodeau’s dismissal Thursday by the Chicago Bulls. In NBA coaching circles, Thibodeau has been connected to the Pelicans job since it came open May 12, partly due to his working relationship with New Orleans star Anthony Davis dating to their time working together with Team USA.
