Meyer: Miller playing for OSU in ’15 and throwing up to 35 yards
If you were harboring any thoughts that Braxton Miller would make a late transfer from Ohio State, Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer shut your brain up on Friday.
“He’s playing for Ohio State (this) fall,” Meyer said via the Columbus Dispatch.
Friday was Meyer’s first time meeting with the media since spring practice concluded, and thus his first press conference opportunity to reiterate his belief that his quarterback would be staying at Ohio State.
Transfer rumors have swirled around Miller as he rehabs from a shoulder injury that cost him his 2014 because of the play of J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones in his absence. Barrett was the starter until he went down with a broken ankle against Michigan. Jones took over and helped Ohio State win the national title with wins over Wisconsin, Alabama and Oregon.
Ohio State is going to have a three-person quarterback competition in 2015. Since Miller would have the opportunity to be a graduate transfer at another school and play immediately, he was the most likely quarterback to depart in the eyes of many.
Meyer said Miller had begun throwing and ruled out a possible position change.
“He’s starting to throw (a football) now, I think he’s up to 35 yards,” Meyer said.
Ohio State has been cautious with his rehab. Miller originally had shoulder surgery following the Buckeyes’ 2014 Orange Bowl appearance and was preparing for the 2014 season when he reinjured his right shoulder. It reportedly dislocated when he was making a throw during practice.
Ohio State’s fall camp opens in August.
