Atlanta was a 3-2 winner at the Angels last night and is 1-2 on their current road trip. They are 5-3 in their last 8 games. San Francisco defeated Milwaukee 3-1 yesterday to complete a 3-game sweep. They finished their road trip 5-2 and are 9-2 in their past 11 games.
This will be the first series of the year between these two clubs. The Giants won the series last year 5-1 and are 7-3 in the last 10 encounters.
Miller received a no decision in his last outing, a 3-2 win over the Brewers. He went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs for his 7th Q start on the season. The Braves are 8-1 in his 9 starts.
Heston was a 10-8 winner at Colorado in his last effort. He didn’t pitch well surrendering 6 runs in 5.2 innings but got the win nonetheless. He has 5 Q starts on the year.
Atlanta OF Cameron Maybin is the only Brave to have faced Heston before. He is 0-1 with a walk vs. the young right-hander.
SF OF Nori Aoki is the only player to have faced Miller more than 6 times in his career. He is 7-18 (.389) with a HR, RBI and SB against him. OF Hunter Pence is 1-5 (.200) but that hit was a homer. The quartet of 1B Brandon belt, C Buster Posey and OFs Gregor Blanco and Angel Pagan are a combined 2-19 (.105) vs. the right-hander.

Shelby Miller has done all that can be asked of him this season with a 77% Q start percentage that rises to 80% on the road. His historical numbers against the Giants are not great overall but most of the damage has been done by Nori Aoki so he will have to keep him in check. The Giants starter Christopher Heston has been struggling with three poor outings of his last four. He has pitched well at home with a 2.77 ERA although in his last start at AT&T he allowed with 5 runs in 5 innings against the Padres. San Francisco owned Atlanta last season winning 5 of 6 games but we don’t have any faith in Heston delivering a solid performance. San Francisco has been putting up runs on the board and should be able to get to Miller and the pen for some and likewise for the Braves against Heston.
