Jerry Jones: Let’s be real aggressive to build a winner around Romo
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones thinks he has a quarterback who can lead his team to a Super Bowl, and he doesn’t want that opportunity to slip away.
That’s why, Jones told USA Today, he’s trying hard to be aggressive and build a championship-caliber team around Tony Romo.
“Let’s be real aggressive,” Jones said. “At this juncture, that has everything to do with where Romo is, and the level of players we have.”
Among the aggressive moves the Cowboys have made this offseason were signing Greg Hardy, drafting Randy Gregory and making a big push to bring in La’El Collins as an undrafted free agent. But the Cowboys also had a big loss in the form of running back DeMarco Murray, who left for Philadelphia. Jones said losing Murray was just part of the cost of doing business.
“We’d love to have Murray,” Jones said. “We had to take a little step back to go forward. We needed that cap room. That’s risky. Yet it freed up the cap room that we could use to make other moves.”
Jones thinks the Cowboys can win a championship without Murray. As long as they have enough other pieces around Romo.

“I’m scouring all the jails in all the land, to help him do that!”
See ya in january @ Lambeau BOYS…. hope this year your little wideout can make a CATCH.
“Yo Adrian, it’s Jerrah!”
The sense of urgency comes from the fact that Romo’s back wont hold up forever. Nothing wrong with that. Guys who put up the kind of numbers he has don’t grow on trees, gotta strike now. Murray was a tough call but ultimately, they’ve got to fill a complete roster. I like the decision.
Romo: How long can the back hold up?
Reverschel.
But can they really win (or even get to) a championship “with” Romo?
Hahaha in what year 2052 that will never happen stop dreaming Cowboys! Lol
#EAGLES
Romo’s a “good” QB but he lacks reliability and consistency; he’s not the guy to lead the Cowboys to the Super Bowl. The best Romo will ever do is lead the Cowboys off the field after a divisional playoff loss.
Thinking Romo is the guy to lead this team to anything is asinine.
Not a fan but they gained far more than they lost. RB is the easiest position to replace and they picked up a pass rusher and a big man on each line which are far harder to find. Dallas worries me as a Packer fan more than Seattle this coming year.
Dallas also has a powder keg on their hands with all the risks they are taking. Will be interesting to watch from afar.
We are being so aggressive, we’ll not only beat the other team – we’ll beat the other team’s families. Then we’ll come back and beat our own families…
Let’s build our team around a player with a glass back. Great plan!
Yup Jerry and we will sign as many women beaters as we have to be a winning team..
Two undeniable facts:
1.) The Cowboys have been “almost great” for as long as TR has been there
2.) Jerry Jones is undead and has walked the earth for 3,000 years.
Romo is getting old and so is his back and his back will never make it through the season without giving in.
Then get aggressive and give up the farm for Adrian Peterson. He also has a short time left to play and the Vikings need to trade him before he gets caught with HGH!!!
A lot has been said in support of the terrific offensive line, and I do think they are the best group in the league, but this year will be a big test of their will. I think their best bet at a bell cow has got to be Joseph Randle. The veterans additions won’t do much, in my opinion. They are capable, don’t get me wrong, but Dallas needs stability at the position and those older guys will just muddy the waters. A good offensive line will feel invested in their runner. They had that with Murray. They need that with the next runner. And Romo needs someone he can trust at the position. If you only rely on Romo, you get a lot of .500 seasons. If you supplement Romo’s arm with some competent legs to move the chains, then you’ve really got a recipe for success, assuming the defense does it’s job.
Yes, Hardy will miss the first 10 games due to suspension, and Romo’s back will have him missing the last 6. That’s Super Bowl caliber right there.
“Lets do some scouting at a few State Penitentiaries.” -Jerry Jones
13-3 and a chance to win this year’s NFC championship game, I’ll take it
Jerry has wised up (with help from his son Stephen) and is making all the right moves. Another excellent draft. Best line in NFL got better–so Cowboys won’t miss DeMarco. I see big things ahead for Joseph Randle. Their average defense will move up several notches with Byron Jones, Randy Gregory, Greg Hardy & return of Sean Lee. Romo is bona fide top 5 NFL QB. Give him running game & time to throw…he’s a lethal playmaker. It’s still gonna take a lot of hard work and a little bit of luck, but Cowboys are legit Super Bowl contenders.
One of the most overrated QB’s in the history of the NFL.
But go ahead and believe he is that great, JJ.
Jones : ” the league was absolutely correct in suspending Tom Brady for whatever amount of games causes him to miss the Dallas game. Tom Brady is a criminal, liar, and cheater. The Cowboys would never tolerate such a person of questionable morals, ethics, and scruples to grace it’s roster. ”
Beep, Beep….. .. Here comes my party bus. Watch me an NFL executive Blandino party like it’s 1959.
.
I know… maybe I should indirectly tamper by unsettling Adrian Peterson and hope that Rick Spielman gets tired and let’s him go for peanuts!
Maybe the Cowboys should offer La’el Collins and their 1st round pick in 2016 for Peterson. That actually might be enough for the Vikings to gain interest.
Much as I dislike the Cowboys, Romo had plenty of help losing playoff games. He didn’t lose them, the Cowboys lost them. It isn’t fair to put this on him. I suspect he can do it. I also suspect a last minute trade of AP from Minnesota.
The most hilarious play I ever saw was in week 17 of 2013 when Kyle Orton threw the losing interception, costing Dallas a playoff berth, and the Cowboys’ owner, GM, president, and VP turned around and yelled at each other.
I’ve always seen ROmo as the football equivalent of the Batman villain Two-Face. When things are on the line, he tosses a coin to decide what team to throw to.
Jerry comeon man you should have been doing this in 2007 LOL
Sorry, but is it his 12th season in the NFL? Lets look at that for a sec….Big Ben and Wilson went to and won a SB in their second year; Eli and Brady in their 4th; Peyton and Brees 9th?
The sell by date on that carton of milk is come and gone.
Cowboys better address that backup QB position…Weeden isn’t going to cut it.
I don’t understand why people assume Romo can’t get there if he had a solid team around him. I would say he is equal to or better than Dilfer, Brad Johnson, Hasselback, Grossman, Delhomme, Eli Manning, Flacco, all of these guys have played in and some have won the super bowl. A great TEAM can carry an above average QB. Just saying…
How bout dem Cowturds!
Tony Romo, LOL!
Jerrah: “We’d love to have Murray,” Jones said. “We had to take a little step back to go forward.”
Every other GM in the league: “Hey Jerrah, losing the leading rusher in the NFL is not a little step back. It’s a giant leap back because your Quarter “glass” Back will be the only focus of every defense he faces”
….another lost year. Forlorn Fan
You smash the team record on the ground last year and dont replace the guy who did it. thats no big deal? If “anyone can run behind that line.” why did you insist on giving it to Murray 400 times? why not spread the load? seems like the logic is flawed.
Mark my words! Texans VS Cowboys! Superbowl 2016!..poke-a-dot, poke-a-dot, poke-a-dot, afro! lol!
Tony Romo is closer to Danny White than Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman; but the O-Line is as good as any in the league. Is the defense good enough? Are the Giants to old, the Redskins a couple years away and the Eagles, well, Chip has a lot of people shaking there heads at his genius/insanity. Cannot wait for September.
^^^Yes! Brain Hoyer (and JJ Watt) is taken Houston to the Superbowl! Brows fans will really be pissed! lol!
Romo still a huge Choke in playoffs. Dallas takes a step backwards this year. I love all cowboy fans upset about the Dez call. What about the ref picking up the flag against obvious PI against Detroit, and not suspending Dez for the next game.
Only Jerry Jones would put an incredible team together like last year, have the most success he has had in 15 years, and then proceed to change the chemistry by changing the one guy who really got them there.
Yes, RB’s are easy to replace. But Rbs that avg ~5.0 YPC, a ridiculous 2.5 yards AFTER contact, AND who can pass protect really really well, are not.
I expect Run DMC to have a better year than last year, but no where near as good as 28 did. And I expect DeMarco Murray to take a step back, but still have a pretty good year.
“Hey Vikings, we need a child abuser to round out our list of turds. What do you want for AP?”
LMAO!!!!!!
imagine if tom brady, aaron Rodgers, drew brees, or even maybe Andrew luck, had his team!? Bum
Mean Machine.
Heard they’re also big fans of Akon and his Convict Music line.
Four words for 2015: “regression to the mean”.
If Romo stays healthy the Cowboys will give the Seahawks a run for the NFC. I can’t take the Pack as a serious contender as long as Mike McCarthey is calling the shots. The meltdown against the Hawks was a lot of circumstances lining up perfectly against the Pack but the conservative switch being flipped by McCarthy certainly played a large role in that result.
And for the record, I am a Dolphins fan that grew up in Detroit and dislike all 3 teams spoken of.
Anybody else remember when Jerry Jones was ticked at Bill Parcells for starting Romo and saying Romo was the guy?
Zack Martin + a 2016 1st Rounder, and AP is all yours. Come and get it Jerruh
Jerry must be too busy getting on TV to actually WATCH the Cowboys play.
Is Dez on-board with the aggressive approach? or will we have another step-back to move forward with AP?
Tune in tomorrow, for another edition of…
‘As Jerruh’s World Turns’
Lol some of you crack me up.
If you don’t think Romo is a really good QB, you don’t know football. At all.
No way are the cowturds doing jack this season or any season while Romo is throwing and Garret is directing.. Bottom line The Seahawks and the Pack will be the teams to beat this season… The cowturds on the other hand will be lucky to go 10-6 and barely make the divisional round.
Let’s be real aggressive to build a winner around Romo
============================
Lets be real….It’s the Cowboys….They’ll figure out another way to bungle it..
Ladies, ladies, ladies. You are making total fools of yourselves bashing away at Romo, please stop. Those of us that have to sit near you in bars have had enough. “Most overrated”? Try “One of the Highest Rated”. In NFL history. Overall. 4th quarter, 4th quarter comebacks, situational play, 2 minute drill, performance when playing with a deficit. Go ahead, look it up. Yes, he has had some very visible and overly talked about, game killing mistakes. So has every QB. He just plays for the team that gets more ratings, clicks and comments than any other in the NFL, so its exaggerated. Just like every story about them, every move Jerry makes, every dumb thing Jerry says. Learn reality. Please, its embarrassing. #5ringsandcounting

Only problem…The Girls just aren’t a great “TEAM”
Jones sure has his jones on for Romo! Good luck with that.
To me Jerry Jones saying that is a ploy to have the Vikings contact him to discuss a trade for AP. He already said he’s willing to give a 1st round pick in 2016 to win now. This is the next step. See if the Vikings bite.
I’m thinking NFC East 1st to worst.
You know the cowboys are great when 99% of the comments on here are haters lol. KEEP IT COMING
LOL, someone said the Cowboys have beem almost great since Romo has been there? Like when they had a historically bad Defense and Romo still managed 8 wins?
And to the Green Bay fans talking smack… really? You lost to a Seahhawks team who gave you 5 ints and tried to give you the game in every weay imaginable? But Erin Rogers still could not get it done? lol. Sit back down already.
Troy Aikman was a mediocre QB at best on a very good team. Romo could have won 5 Super Bowls with that team
Wow how many years has Romo been with Dallas? Where has this so called GM been all those 8-8 years. Romo is in the twilight of his career now.

Remind us when it was when the Eagles won a Super Bowl. Never? Gotcha. You only need 5 to tie.

Again? So soon?
Like it or not Romo is top 5 (#1 last year). I like his chances over Bradford’s chances to last the season even with similarly talented lines.
The phrase “build a winner around Romo” should read “build a winner in spite of Romo”.
Romo has had more than his share of rib and back injuries. Really would worry me, especially since they have no real experienced QB behind him. Huge mistake! If Romo goes down for an extended period, kiss playoffs good bye. Don’t care how good the O-line is, will not be effective against 8 defenders in the box. Not to mention that while the Cowboys defense may have gotten a little better this year, they are still only average at best.
2016 1st rd pick, clairbourne & a starting lineman & u can have peterson

Yet Romo’s record in the playoffs is 2-4, and he’s never gotten past the Divisional round of the NFL Playoffs. His only playoff wins were home games against the Eagles (’09) and Lions (’14) during Wild Card Weekend. Tony Romo is 0-3 on the road in the playoffs.
Mark freaking Sanchez has twice as many wins in the playoffs compared to Romo (4-2), and all those playoff games were on the road. As a starting QB he’s led his team to the AFC Title game twice.
Think about that. Sanchez has 4 road playoff wins beating Carson Palmer, Philip Rivers, Peyton Manning, and Tom Brady. He’s come 1 game within the Super Bowl twice, whereas Romo is still trying to get out of the Divisional round.
Soak that in and get back to me.
Romo is a stat-tracker’s dream. By all means, put him on your fantasy team. Just remember, it’s called fantasy for a reason.
Romo loses the critical games. In his time, he’s managed to give away the Division on the final game of the season (successively) to all 3 other teams. Add in his degenerating physical health and I don’t see him driving this team much of anywhere.
You may not have much competition for the division this year, but if the Cowboys are to take the NFC East at all, it won’t be Romo that wins it for you.
Has anyone seen what Romo’s stats were last year? He had the best in the league. Even better than Aaron Rodgers and got ripped off for MVP! Take away the the Dez catch and they had the super bowl won. Did you also forget how they were the only team to beat Seattle at home and how they destroyed Indy like 44-7 ? They are going to win the super bowl this year baring injuries.
Jim Plunkett, Joe Theismann, Phil Simms, Brad Johnson, Trent Dilfer, Doug Williams….all Super Bowl winners. Romo is ten times better than those guys. It can and most likely will happen that Romo will get to a Super Bowl, and maybe even win it.

No offense, but the Jets success had nothing to do with their offense and everything to do with Rex’s defense. In fact, if you put Romo on those teams instead of Sanchez, the Jets are in the Super Bowl.
I enjoy Cowboys bashing as much as anyone, but this year I think the Cowboys will go far in the playoffs. Their offensive line will be together another year and will be the best unit in the league. The D-line has some real talent… if they don’t get suspended again. Romo is a pretty darned good QB who will have all day throw behind that line. I hate to admit it, but this may the Cowboys’ year.
I like when everyone hates. It gives me much pride knowing that somewhere down the line the Cowboys have wooped you so bad you cant stand them. In some cases over and over again year after year. So keep on talking trash and remember what i said when we woop you again and again and again. How bout them Cowboys !!
Anybody who knows football knows romo is a franchise qb you can win with.
How many multiple int playoff games has brady had ? football is a team game.
The romo chokes narrative is pretty played out. Has he thrown game ending pics yep. So has brady. When you are down by 14 with 4 mins to play you have to pass and everybody knows that. So its easier to key in on receivers. Give romo a defense and we will really see what he can do.
Romo has never been the problem. The 2007 team did not have a coach capable of preparing a team for greatness. They left at least 5 touchdowns on the field against the Giants that was not Romo’s fault. Thanks Patrick Crayton. A simple examination of easily available facts tell how superior Romo gas been during his Cowboy caerer. The consecutive 8-8 season required super human performances by Tony. In 2013 he and the offense left the defense on the field with the final possession and a lead 4 times. Four times the defense failed to hold the lead. A potential 12-4 season became another mediocre 8-8. Allyou haters blame Tony and he never placed the blame where it belongs- on an inadequate supporting cast. A 25% success rate and we make the playoffs. Your jelousy has made you blindly ignorant.
Tony Romo delivers in the regular season like he’s Buddy Love, but when the playoffs arrive the serum wears off and he turns back into the Nutty Professor.
Did somebody just say Romo has never been the problem? Good lord what in the world are you smoking? He’s choked his rear off every season but last year. They were 13-3 one year and he couldn’t even win a playoff game. They’ve been loaded with talent his entire career and he doesn’t have jack to show for it but a bunch of untimely picks and fumbles.
They’ve had pro-bowlers all over the offense including the line and multiple top-10 defenses while he’s been there and he just recently passed Tebow in playoff wins.
Thanks for all the hate mail guys. It keeps my BOYS relavent. You haters are what makes us AMERICAS TEAM. Have you heard the saying ” There’s no such thing as bad publicity”. You fools give me something to read everyday. Romo is tougher than any QB in the league. And I’ll put his # against any QB in the game. So SB or no SB. I would take him over half the QB in the league. Its only 1 team in history that have more SB than Dallas. And that’s about to change this season. HOL-UP, HOL-UP ” WE DEM BOYS” LOLOLOLOLOL!!!!!!!!

So you’re saying he is ranked about 16th or 17th in the league? Sounds about right. I agree.
