Live blog: Following best Memorial Day action
Prince Fielder’s Rangers and Jason Kipnis’ Indians are both red hot. (USATSI)
Happy Memorial Day everyone. Let us count our blessings that so many braves soldiers have given their lives in order for us to live a free and happy life. We can take a few moments to solemnly thank them with full hearts and then enjoy the day. I like to think it’s what each and every one of them would have wanted.
And while we’re enjoying the day, there’s plenty of day baseball to be taken in. We’ve got some dandies, such as the mighty Nationals visiting the up-and-coming Cubs. How about the surprising Twins hosting the Red Sox? Royals at Yankees is good, but it would’ve been better had the Yankees not come in with a complete tailspin.
The two hottest teams in baseball, though, are the Texas Rangers and Cleveland Indians and they just happen to be squaring off in Cleveland. The Rangers bring a five-game winning streak to town while the Indians boast a six-gamer. The two clubs met in Texas a few series back, with the Indians taking two of three and they’ve actually won eight of 10 overall.
Some added intrigue here is that Josh Hamilton will suit up for the Rangers for the first time since departing via free agency in the offseason prior to 2013. We know how talented he is and returning to where he seems most comfortable could be a real boost for both Hamilton and the Rangers.
Anyway, welcome to The Eye. It is here that we’ll be showing our work throughout the day and night of MLB action, and putting a bow on it when the night concludes. Feel free to check throughout the day or just come back Tuesday morning when you’re annoying to be dragging your butt back to work after an outstanding, extended weekend.

Oh boy, I’m sure this will make his legions of haters happy …
Asked if he checked flags at Wrigley, Bryce Harper said: ”I don’t need wind. I’m good.” Said it smiling. #Nationals #Cubs

Stat of the day
Royals starter Jeremy Guthrie was abused for eight runs in the first inning by the Yankees.
That is first eight-run first inning for the Royals since Mark Redmond on 9/23/06. First eight-run frame, in general, since Hoch on 9/30/12.

New nickname alert
Bryce Harper and Kris Bryant both grew up in Las Vegas (sick Little League!).
Bryce Harper on Kris Bryant: “When we were younger, we used to call him ‘Silk,’ because he was so smooth with everything he did.” #Cubs
