by Sean d’Oliveira | CBSSports.com
(12:51 pm ET) With his second hit during Monday’s loss to the Diamondbacks, Marlins outfielder Ichiro Suzuki collected his 2,873rd hit of his career, which tied Babe Ruth for the 42nd most hits in baseball history, reports NJ.com.
“Obviously, when you think of Babe Ruth, he’s a home run hitter,” he said. “I never seen him play, and don’t know too much about him. For me, I’m just such a different type of player. I like to get hits and use my legs to get different types of hits and obviously he’s hitting home runs.”
Suzuki, 41, has collected 29 hits in 101 at-bats this season for a .287 average.
Report: Teams scouting Phillies OF Ben Revere for possible deal
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:43 pm ET) Phillies outfielder Ben Revere could become a trade piece this summer. Revere has played fairly well this year, though his .314 on-base percentage is rather low for a lead-off hitter.
Still, Revere is 8 for 11 in stolen base attempts and plays a tremendous outfield, in all three positions. He also finished fifth in the National League with a .306 batting average in 2014.
When the Phillies decide to return Domonic Brown and Cody Asche to the team, they will have a bit of a roster crunch, making Revere the logical one to go. Teams are scouting Revere, and the Angels have shown interest previously, according to FoxSports.com.
Mariners’ Lloyd McClendon on trade: ‘Mike Zunino is our catcher’
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(12:24 pm ET) Despite Tuesday’s acquisition of Welington Castillo, Mariners manager Lloyd McClendon confirmed on MLB Network Radio that Mike Zunino is still the team’s starting catcher.
Zunino has struggled offensively thus far in 2015, as he is sporting a meager .179 batting average with five home runs. He showed some signs of a life with a two-homer game last week, but he has just two hits in his 14 at-bats since then.
Worthy of note, current reserve catcher Jesus Sucre is also not producing at the plate, as his batting average is below .100 in 15 at-bats this year.

White Sox’s Adam Eaton picking things up in May
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:29 am ET) White Sox center fielder Adam Eaton finished April with a .497 OPS, but he’s shot out to a .294/.357/.431 line in 51 May at-bats.
Eaton is in the midst of a seven-game hitting streak that includes three multihit performances and was started with a 4-for-5 outburst on May 11. He’s also managed a pair of doubles and one triple in his last four games.
“When he’s going good, we’re a better team,” manager Robin Ventura said, per MLB.com. “Any team that has a leadoff guy that’s getting on, creating havoc when he gets on and becomes a tough out, you’re a much better lineup because it’s right before your best hitters come up. He can create a lot of uncomfortable situations for people by getting on and running around the bases.”
Eaton went 1 for 4 on Monday against the Indians and is set for six more games at home over the remainder of the week.
Blue Jays’ Kevin Pillar struggling offensively in May
by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:24 am ET) Blue Jays center fielder Kevin Pillar posted a .694 OPS in April but has struggled to find the same success this month, hitting .194/.247/.254 with four RBI, nine runs scored and three stolen bases in 67 at-bats.
Pillar has played every inning for the Blue Jays this season, and though he was able to jump out to a nice start in April, his offense has started to lag this month. The Blue Jays haven’t had a day off since May 7 and won’t get their next break until May 28.
Pillar is one of three Blue Jays to play in all 40 games, though he’s the only one to play in the field every game, as the other two have seen time at designated hitter.

by R.J. White | CBSSports.com
(11:14 am ET) Blue Jays outfielder Chris Colabello went 0 for 2 with three walks in his team’s 10-6 win over the Angels on Monday.
Colabello has been on a roll since being called up, and he’s made 13 straight starts while bouncing between left and right field. Though his OPS fell under 1.000 for the first time this season on Monday, he has still hit .396/.453/.542 with one home run and six RBI in 48 at-bats.
Cardinals’ Yadier Molina gets three hits Monday, average over .300
by Jason Lempert | Staff Writer
(11:05 am ET) Cardinals catcher Yadier Molina had three hits in five at-bats in Monday’s loss to the Mets. Molina, who has gotten off to a rather slow start at the plate, is riding a modest five-game hitting streak. He is 10 for 21 over that stretch and has lifted his season average from .277 to .302 with the hot streak. It’s the first time since mid-April that Molina’s average been above the .300 mark.
Molina also caught all 14 innings of Monday’s extra-inning affair, and has started all but one of the team’s 17 games this month.
It remains to be seen if manager Mike Matheny gives Molina the day off on Tuesday. The veteran backstop does have a lifetime .375 batting average (6 for 16) with a home run against Jonathon Niese, who is slated to start for the Mets on Tuesday.
