The last blue chip player in the class of 2015 is off the board.
Caleb Swanigan will end up at Purdue after all. The five-star center from Fort Wayne, Ind., picked the Boilermakers on Tuesday morning about two weeks after decommitting from Tom Izzo and Michigan State.
Purdue was considered one of the frontrunners for Swanigan before he picked the Spartans. He’ll join senior center A.J. Hammons to form one of the biggest and most intimidating frontcourts in college basketball next season.
Swanigan, a 6’8, 275-pound big man, is ranked as the No. 9 player in the class of 2015, according to ESPN. He was the last blue chip prospect left in the class. Swanigan also considered Cal and Kentucky before making his decision.
More on Swanigan
Maryland is expected to be the preseason favorite in the Big Ten, but the addition of Swanigan should make Purdue a viable threat in the conference. The Boilermakers went 21-13 last year, earning a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament before losing to Cincinnati at the buzzer in the round of 64.
Purdue returns 6’7 sophomore Vince Edwards, junior shooter Kendall Stephens and senior Rapheal Davis at point guard in addition to Hammons.
