Carlos Gomez leaves game with facial contusion after being hit by pitch
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Carlos Gomez appears to have avoided a potentially serious injury. In the sixth inning of Sunday’s contest against the New York Mets, Gomez was hit in the head with a 97 mph fastball.
Gomez immediately went to the ground, and was tended to by a trainer. After some time, Gomez was able to walk off the field under his own power. He was replaced by Gerardo Parra.
While any pitch that hits a player in the head is a terrifying event, this one appears to mostly hit Gomez’s helmet. That may have played a big role in his condition. After the game, the team announced that Gomez was dealing with a facial contusion. As of right now, the club does not believe he has a concussion.
Despite the whole ordeal, Gomez said he believes he can play as soon as Monday.
The 29-year-old outfielder was fortunate to escape without a major injury, though he does have a bruise on his face from his helmet.
The bruise gives you an idea of how hard Gomez must have been hit with the pitch. All told, though, this is about the best news that can come from this scenario.

It seems like Gomez will attempt to play tomorrow. That’s pretty amazing considering the circumstances.
