Wizards now selling ‘I called game’ t-shirts in honor of Paul Pierce
In the moments after he banked home a game-winning jumper in Game 3 of an Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Atlanta Hawks, Washington Wizards veteran forward Paul Pierce responded to a question about whether he called glass on the shot with the now famous quip: “I called game.”
The Internet exploded, and another chapter chapter in the legend of The Truth was written.
Throughout the 2015 NBA Playoffs, the 37-year-old former Finals MVP has put his money where his prodigious mouth is, trolling the Toronto Raptors both before and after he anchored a first-round sweep and soon set his sights on the Hawks after a Game 1 upset and his heroics in an important Game 3 win.
Apparently, Pierce’s mouth is also putting money in his team’s pockets, as the Wizards have begun selling “I CALLED GAME” t-shirts in their pro shop, per intrepid Washington Post reporter Michael Lee.
Just imagine how many more t-shirts the Wiz would’ve sold had Al Horford’s putback game-winner not spoiled Pierce’s go-ahead corner 3-pointer in the final seconds of Atlanta’s 82-81 victory in Game 5. The team could’ve started a whole new t-shirt line with Pierce’s presumptive “series” call to the Hawks bench.
Instead, it’s the Hawks who have a chance to shut Pierce up for good this season with a close-out Game 6 on the road in Washington on Friday, but something tells me he’ll have something to say about that.
