Zimmerman has been sharp ever since getting smoked for 7 runs in 2 1/3 at Fenway in his second start of the season reeling off 5 straight Q starts. He has only average numbers against the Padres’ lineup but he has had success against San Diego as a team with 5 Q starts in his last 6 against them. Despaigne will make his first start against Washington so he gets a small advantage for at least the first time through the lineup, but he has been hit hard in his last two outings one in relief and the other in a start allowing 12 runs on 14 hits in 6 2/3 innings. It must also be noted that he hasn’t pitched since the 7th. We’re going to toss out yesterday’s performance by the Nationals taking the stance that the two hour delay after initially getting underway through them off of their game. We’ll side with the team laying the extra money who is doing a much better job at the plate against a starter who doesn’t appear to be in top form.
