MLB tells Dodgers it made incorrect call on replay challenge Wednesday
Los Angeles Dodgers manager Don Mattingly was ejected from Wednesday’s game against Miami when he became frustrated by a replay review that ruled a Howie Kendrick hit to right field was caught by Marlins outfielder Giancarlo Stanton.
After further review of the play and the incident, MLB called the Dodgers on Thursday to say it had blown the call and Kendrick should have been safe at first to start the fourth inning. While we’ll never know how the call ultimately might have changed things in the 5-4 Marlins win, it certainly seems reasonable to consider that it could have made the difference between a win and a loss in a game that was ultimately decided by one run.

We do know this much, if Kendrick was awarded the hit and didn’t get himself picked off, he would have scored later in the inning on a triple by Alex Guerrero.
Mattingly said Dodgers got a call from NY that the replay officials missed last night’s call.

Mattingly discussed his frustration with the call and the replay system in general with the Los Angeles Times. He made what sounds like a reasonable suggestion in saying he believes replay officials in New York should not be informed of how plays were called on the field when they are reviewing a play.
“I think they have to take the human element out of it and make a blind call, yes or no, safe or out,” Mattingly told the Times. “They don’t know what the call is. They don’t know if it’s overturned.
“There shouldn’t be a stand or overturned. Just go look at it point blank. Safe or out. They don’t need to know anything about the play in general, just need to see the play. It’s pretty simple.”
