Starting pitchers for the Boston Red Sox have struggled, putting it nicely, having posted a 5.86 ERA in 33 games coming into play Wednesday. Carl Willis has replaced Juan Nieves as pitching coach, and the club announced that right-hander Justin Masterson would be hitting the disabled list soon because of arm fatigue (even though the pitcher says he’s not hurt.) The bigger problem is, he’s not the only pitcher in danger of losing his job. Left-hander Wade Miley has pitched better than his 6.91 ERA, but even saying that is misleading because he averages about 4 2/3 innings per start. Miley takes the mound today against the Oakland Athletics in the first of a full 15-game slate in Major League Baseball.
