Kris Bryant christens new Wrigley Field bleachers with home run
Fans in the new left field bleachers in Wrigley Field didn’t have to wait long to celebrate the first Cubs’ home run hit into their midst Monday night, the first game of the season in which fans were allowed to sit in the renovated area.
What better way to christen those seats than with third baseman Kris Bryant’s first home run in Wrigley Field?
Bryant connected with a 94 mph fastball up in the zone from New York Mets starter Jacob deGrom. It was just the ninth pitch of the evening for deGrom, who took the loss in the Cubs’ 4-3 victory.
Bryant went 20 games in the big leagues and more than 90 at-bats before connecting on his first career home run on Saturday off Kyle Lohse at Miller Park in Milwaukee. Now he has his first homer in a home game and seems to be finding the stroke that made him the Player of the Year in the minor leagues in 2014.

Unlike his first home run against the Brewers when his teammates pranked him by abandoning the dugout so he returned from his romp around the bases to no one, Bryant’s teammates and manager Joe Maddon were there to celebrate his first home run trot in Wrigley.
