Harry Reid ties deflate-gate to Redskins name with searing hot take
The beauty of the deflate-gate story, in which the NFL has suspended Tom Brady in connection with deflated footballs, is that it’s a tale that contains multitudes. You can tie absolutely any take you have on the NFL to this particular saga. Did the NFL completely botch this investigation and punishment? Should Brady retire just to spite the NFL? Has Roger Goodell cut the puppet strings held by his owners? See? It all can fit!
You can also tie in the NFL’s woeful record on domestic violence or concussion awareness or any of a dozen other issues without a whole lot of trouble. But leave it to Sen. Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to make the connection that no one else had yet done:
BOOM. Reid off the top rope with the Redskins elbow! Reid is, of course, referring to the name of the Washington Redskins. Many opponents of that name have decried it as racist; team owner Daniel Snyder has insisted he will never change the name. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has said the league would listen to the voices of opponents, but perhaps the commissioner couldn’t hear those voices over the sound of the hot air whistling around Gillette Stadium.
This is going to get worse before it gets better, folks.
