Report: Notre Dame limits Everett Golson’s transfer options
Everett Golson road to a new school continues to be paved with pitfalls.
According to a report by FoxSports.com, Notre Dame has restricted the schools to which Golson can transfer, including any program on the Irish’s 2015 schedule.
That list includes Texas, Virginia, Georgia Tech, UMass, Clemson, Navy, USC, Temple, Pitt, Wake Forest, Boston College or Stanford.
This is in addition to SEC rules that could prohibit Golson from joining a team in that conference. Current conference rules prohibit schools from enrolling transfers that had disciplinary issues at their former school. Golson missed the 2013 season after being academically disqualified.
SEC rules also block transfers with just one season of eligibility, which is what Golson has. An SEC team — South Carolina and Georgia are rumored to be interested — could apply a waiver for Golson, but there would have to be strong circumstances.
During his Notre Dame career, Golson threw for 5,850 yards, 41 touchdowns and 20 interceptions. However, 14 of those interceptions came in 2014. He also threw for 3,445 yards and 29 touchdowns last year, but his turnovers were enough to open a competition with Malik Zaire. Zaire was ahead in the competition after spring ball, which prompted Golson’s decision to transfer.
