Hero dad makes one-handed catch while holding baby
Sunday may have been Mother’s Day, but this dad deserves some recognition.
During Sunday’s Philadelphia Phillies’ game, this dad began his case for the “Father of the Year Award.” In the fourth inning, New York Mets infielder Daniel Murphy fouled a 93 mph fastball into the stands.
That’s when hero dad sprung into action. With his child around his chest, this father made a tremendous one-handed catch, winning glory and admiration from his fellow fans.
Due to the difficulty of the grab, you have to give him props for his immediate celebration. How often do you get a shot at a foul ball? And how often are you able to make this type of play? We would have stood up and cheered for you, as well, hero dad.
Perhaps the coolest part of the whole exchange is that he didn’t have to give the ball away. That child will now have a fantastic story to tell when he grows up. “Yeah, I got a foul ball at my first game. No big deal.”
And for dad, well, now he has a story to relay to all of his child’s future dates. “Let me tell you about the time I caught that foul ball for my boy,” he’ll say as you roll your eyes.

The tale will get old after about three times, but it’s better than telling them about the time you got your head stuck in a staircase railing. Thanks for that, dad!
