(9:55 am ET) The Royals have activated infielder Rafael Furcal from the minor-league disabled list and assigned him to Class A Wilmington, the Kansas City Star reports.
Furcal tore his hamstring during winter-league play but joined the Royals on a minor-league deal this spring. He played in just nine games last season due to hamstring and groin issues, going 6 for 35 with the Marlins.
Nationals’ Erik Davis begins Class A rehab assignment Friday

(9:51 am ET) Nationals pitcher Erik Davis opened a rehab assignment with high Class A Potomac Friday, striking out two in a perfect inning of work. Davis is working his way back from Tommy John surgery, which he underwent prior to the 2014 season.
Tigers’ Jose Iglesias out of lineup Saturday

(9:49 am ET) Tigers shortstop Jose Iglesias is not in the starting lineup for Saturday’s game against the Royals.
Iglesias is battling a sore groin, which has allowed him to make just one start this week. He has hit .349/.400/.482 with one home run, three RBI and five stolen bases in 83 at-bats. Andrew Romine draws the start in his place, batting ninth.
The Tigers are favorites (-150) at home against the Royals Saturday.
Tigers place C Alex Avila on DL, recall C Bryan Holaday

(9:37 am ET) The Tigers placed catcher Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list Saturday, retroactive to May 7, due to a loose body in his left knee, the team announced.
Avila was scratched from Friday’s lineup but was said to be dealing with a forearm contusion. He has hit .200/.342/.317 with two home runs and eight RBI while serving as the team’s primary catcher against right-handed pitchers.
The Tigers will recall catcher Bryan Holaday before Saturday’s game to replace Avila on the active roster. He has hit .230/.278/.328 with one home run and nine RBI in 61 at-bats with Triple-A Toledo.
Unlike Avila, Holaday bats right-handed, as does catcher James McCann, who could be in for regular playing time against righties with Avila sidelined.
Pirates’ Charlie Morton tosses seven scoreless innings Friday

Morton is working his way back from September labrum surgery.

(9:27 am ET) Phillies pitcher Sean O’Sullivan began a rehab assignment with Class A Lakewood Thursday, allowing one earned run on five hits and one walk in 4 1/3 innings while striking out five.
O’Sullivan is on the disabled list with a knee injury. He’s 0-1 with a 4.91 ERA and 7:3 K:BB ratio in 11 innings.
Yankees’ Chris Capuano could return after next rehab start

(9:16 am ET) Yankees pitcher Chris Capuano could return to major-league action after making one more rehab start next week, the New York Daily News reports.
Capuano threw 72 pitches in his first rehab start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Thursday, giving up one earned run on four hits and two walks in 4 2/3 innings while striking out four, and general manager Brian Cashman said he’s be increased to 90 pitches in his next rehab start before a decision is made on whether to activate the pitcher.
When asked if Capuano would join the rotation when activated, Cashman said, “We’ll deal with that when I have an option. I know when I signed him, I signed him to be a part of our rotation. That was the intent.”

Clippard pitched just the one inning and did not factor in a save or decision.
Padres RF Will Venable drives in two runs Friday

Venable hit a solo home run and triple during the game. He raised his batting average to .200. Prior to Friday’s three-hit game, Venable had been 0 for 15 in his last 10 games
Mariners 1B Logan Morrison connects for first-career walk-off homer

(1:54 am ET) First baseman Logan Morrison connected for his first-career walk-off home run Friday to lift the Mariners over the Athletics in 11 innings.
Morrison led off the frame with a blast to center field, going 2 for 5 overall on the night. The homer was Morrison’s fifth on the season.
