Cincinnati lost 7-2 at Pittsburgh yesterday. They are 4-3 on their current road trip and 6-4 in their last 10 games overall. Chicago was defeated 4-1 by Detroit last night and is now 2-1 on their current homestand. They are 2-6 in their last 8 games but 8-4 at home in 2015.
This is the first matchup between these two teams since 2009. The White Sox have been dominant in this matchup going 9-1 going back to 2000.
Marquis got his 3rd-straight win last week, defeating Atlanta 8-4. He allowed 3 runs in 6.1 innings and it was his 2nd-straight Q start, 3rd on the year. His teammates have scored 33 runs in his last 3 outings.
Noesi lost 5-3 at Minnesota last week, allowing 5 runs in 4.1 innings. He doesn’t have a Q start in any of his 3 starts in 2015 and hasn’t gotten out of the 6th inning in any of them.
Only five Chicago players have faced Marquis. Utilityman Emilio Bonifacio is 7-16 (.437) with 2 RBIs and 2 steals off the right-hander while 1B Adam LaRoche is 11-38 (.289) with 3 HRs and 5 RBIs.
This is basically the first time any Reds hitters are facing Noesi. 1B Joey Votto and 2B Brandon Phillips are both 1-1 off the right-hander.

We believe that the team variables are a wash here and that the pitching edge goes to Cincinnati. The Reds’ starter Jason Marquis has had an uneven season but has strung together back to back Q starts. He has poor statistical numbers in his past against the White Sox, but we must point out that his last start against them came in 2008! Emilio Bonifacio has great numbers versus Marquis but he’s a bench player this season. Hector Noesi has gotten worse each outing this season and was been hammered in limited at bats against the Reds.
