Yasmani Grandal drives in eight runs during monster game Thursday
Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal may have just turned in the best performance in a single game this season.
Grandal had an exceptional game Thursday against the Milwaukee Brewers, driving in an incredible eight runs.
The 26-year-old was completely locked in at the plate, reaching in all six of his plate appearances. He kicked things off in the first inning, hitting a single up the middle. Grandal would walk in his next two plate appearances.
Reaching base wasn’t enough, so Grandal decided to start driving in runs during his fourth at-bat. With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Grandal singled in two runs.
He would top himself the next time up, hitting a three-run homer in the eighth. The Dodgers continued to hit in the ninth inning, setting Grandal up for one more at-bat.
Once again, he delivered. With two men on, Grandal belted another three-run shot to left center. He finished the contest 4 for 4, with three runs scored and eight RBI. He walked in his other two plate appearances.
With the performance, Grandal managed to raise his batting average by .040 points.
Grandal has been on fire lately. Since the start of May, he’s already turned in three games where he’s picked up at least three hits. Grandal was hitting .179 when the month started.
In case you were wondering whether he can keep up the hot streak, the Dodgers begin a series at Coors Field on Friday.
Grandal’s career got off to a promising start in 2012, but injuries, and a suspension, derailed his progress over the past couple seasons. He’s shown flashes of greatness, though, which is why the Dodgers targeted him in the Matt Kemp trade.

The deal may have been initially viewed as a salary dump for Los Angeles, but Grandal’s performance thus far has justified the team’s decision to part with their superstar outfielder.
