It’s approved, but Tucson Bowl is not guaranteed for 2015
According to organizers, the Tucson Bowl still needs some things to happen before it can be played in 2015.
“We were approved and it’s a huge step, but we still have an awful long way to go,” Alan Young, the chief operating officer of the Arizona Sports and Entertainment Commission told the Arizona Daily Star.
Those steps? They include a title sponsor and a contract for the game. It’s scheduled to be played in Arizona’s football stadium.
A report of the game’s approval emerged on Tuesday. If played in 2015, the Tucson Bowl would be one of three new bowls this season along with a bowl in Austin, Texas and a game in Orlando.
Young told the Daily Star that a “number” of companies had been in discussions to sponsor the game. However, he’s not guaranteeing the game will happen in 2015.
“I feel good about it,” he said. “Our goal is to make it [this year] but certain things have to happen.”
If the Tucson Bowl is held in 2015, there will be 42 bowl games. If it isn’t, there will be 41. Young said the game would have to reapply for certification again in 2016 if it wasn’t played this year, though he didn’t anticipate it being a potential issue.
