Everett Golson to transfer from Notre Dame
Malik Zaire has the inside track on Notre Dame’s starting quarterback job in 2015.
Quarterback Everett Golson said Thursday he was transferring from the school. The news was first reported by ESPN and Golson issued a statement Thurday afternoon.
After much thought, prayer and discussion with my family, I have decided that it is in my best interest to graduate from Notre Dame and transfer to another school effectively immediately,
I would like to thank everyone at Notre Dame for the opportunity to compete at the highest level of college football, but most importantly to obtain my degree from one of the finest universities in the country. To all the Fighting Irish fans, I want to thank you for your support over the past four years and let you know I truly love Notre Dame. To my former teammates, who I will miss tremendously, I wish much success in the future and will be your biggest fan from afar.
I will have no future comment at this time and ask that you respect my time as I figure out this live changing moment. God has a plan for each of us and I ask for your prayers as I move forward in this new journey in my life.

While much of the quarterback graduate transfer speculation has centered around Braxton Miller, Golson has long been considered a candidate to play his final season at another school.
After a solid 2012 campaign where Notre Dame ended up in the BCS Championship Game against Alabama, Golson missed the 2013 season because of academic improprieties. When he returned in 2014, he played well at the beginning of the season but became a turnover machine as the season progressed.
He didn’t throw an interception in the first three games of the year but threw 14 over Notre Dame’s last nine. He also lost eight fumbles and ended up splitting time with Zaire during Notre Dame’s Music City Bowl win over LSU.
The timeshare arrangement continued during Notre Dame’s spring game in April as coach Brian Kelly said the decision “will take care of itself.”
Though Golson’s transfer destination is unknown, LSU has been mentioned before. After the Music City Bowl, Golson reportedly “reached out” to the Tigers about a transfer. LSU quarterbacks Anthony Jennings and Brandon Harris struggled in 2014.
