Urban Meyer having appendix surgery, his wife says
Meyer’s wife Shelley told Cleveland.com that the Buckeyes coach would have surgery to have his appendix removed on Wednesday afternoon.
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer will miss a scheduled appearance at Findlay University Wednesday night due to health reasons.Ohio State announced earlier in the day that Meyer would miss the event due to an “unplanned surgery,” but did not offer specifics. According to BuckeyeGrove.com, a program spokesperson said Meyer could stay in the hospital overnight.
“Everything is going to be all right,” the spokesperson said.
In addition to Wednesday night’s appearance in Findlay, Meyer is scheduled to throw out the first pitch at Friday night’s New York Yankees game.
“Right now the hope is that he will still be able to make it to New York to throw out the first pitch and do some other things in the city that he had planned,” the OSU spokesperson said.
Meyer has had well-documented health issues in the past. He was admitted to the hospital due to chest pains after the SEC Championship in 2009 when he was the head coach at Florida. He later resigned from his position at UF after the 2010 season in part due to health concerns.
