Oakland defeated Minnesota 2-1 last night to even the current series 1-1. The A’s are 3-2 on their road trip but 4-6 in their last 10 games overall. The Twins are 6-3 on their homestand and 10-5 at home in 2015.
This is the first series between these two clubs this year and Oakland has an 8-2 edge in the last 10 meetings between these two clubs.
Kazmir received his 3rd-straight no decision in his last outing but has tossed a Q start in all 5 of his appearances this season. He has allowed 2 runs or less in four of his five starts. Gibson defeated the White Sox 1-0 in his last start throwing 8 innings and striking out 4. It was his 3rd Q start of 2015.
Only two Oakland hitters have more than 2 ABs vs. Gibson. DH Billy Butler 1-8 while 3B Brett Lawrie is 0-3.
Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe is the only hitter with much success against the veteran left-hander as he is hitting .368. OF Torii Hunter is one of only two players to homer off of Kazmir and he has the only SB. 2B Brian Dozier is the other Minnesota player to have homered off of Kazmir but he, C Kurt Suzuki and 1B Joe Mauer are a collective 10-69 (.145) vs. the lefty.

A’s starter Kazmir has been his usual self meaning you can count on him the most part to record a Q start every time he gets the ball. The thing is he’d not going to go the distance very often and this season Oakland’s bullpen has struggled. Kyle Gibson starts for Minnesota and he’s been very good since his opener holding the opposition to 3 or less runs in four straight. He did get roughed up in the opener by the Tigers allowing 6 runs in 3 2/3 and he could suffer the same fate tonight going against the Athletics who got to him 5 runs in 5 innings in his only start against them.
