John Axford watched historic boxing match through apartment window
Did you spend $100 on the boxing match of the century between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao on Saturday night?
That’s great if you did. Hopefully you came away more satisfied than most customers seemed. But we think Colorado Rockies reliever and Oscar’s aficionado John Axford got one up on you thanks to his resourcefulness.

With the Rockies on the road in San Diego, Axford’s viewing options were actually pretty limited considering he didn’t have his own home to return to. It didn’t help that Colorado’s 4-2 loss to the Padres didn’t end until just before the fight started, either. By that point, the bars were likely packed, and going to the team hotel may have cost him valuable time.
So instead, Axford, along with a large group of folks in the same boat, gathered outside an apartment building somewhere in San Diego and watched the early part of the fight through a third floor window.
Seriously. We’re not making this up. They peeped through a window to catch the action.
Amazingly, they had a good enough view to gather what was going on in the fight. And then, suddenly, that view became obstructed when a chair was moved into their viewing path.
Oh, the humanity.
That’s actually pretty awesome.
Shameless, but awesome.

Axford later reported that he watched the end of the fight from a local establishment, but he’ll always have those moments of creeping through a stranger’s window.
By the way, kudos to the apartment owners for not closing the curtains once they realized there was a crowd gathered outside. They could have broken a lot of hearts. With that in mind though, perhaps next time, if there is a next time, they should just charge admission into the apartment and make a nice profit.
