Former LSU, South Carolina player charged in death of child
A former SEC player has been charged with murder.
According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Steven Terrence Singleton was booked into Gwinnett County (Ga.) jail Wednesday and is being held without bond on “felony murder and first-degree cruelty to children charges” in relation to the death of a 4-year-old boy.
Singleton, 26, played college football at both LSU and South Carolina.
Arrest warrants say that Singleton is accused of “inflicting fatal brain injuries” on 4-year-old Tye Hardin. Details of the incident are currently unknown, but police said more information would be provided on Thursday.
Singleton’s relationship with the child is unknown.
From the AJC:
In the last several days, Singleton posted multiple times on Facebook about the same child, a 4-year-old boy he called his “little buddy.” A GoFundMe.com page set up for that child’s mother said the youngster passed away Monday after “a head injury that (left) him in the hospital on life support, brain dead.” Singleton’s relationship with the child was unclear. The child’s obituary did not list Singleton as a relative.
Singleton, an offensive lineman, began his college career at LSU and redshirted as a true freshman in 2006. He then transferred to South Carolina in 2009 after two seasons at Georgia Military College.
