(2:58 pm ET) John Farrell announced Wednesday that the Red Sox have made a slew of moves, including the demotion of outfielder Jackie Bradley back to Triple-A Pawtucket a day after he had been brought up.
Farrell also told WEEI that Anthony Varvaro has been designated for assignment and that fellow right-handers Dalier Hinojosa and Tommy Layne have been recalled from the minors.
Bradley is still trying to display his potential at the big-league level after batting .198 in 384 at-bats with Boston a year ago. Varvaro punched his ticket back by giving up four runs on eight hits in his last 3 1/3 innings pitched.
Blue Jays OF Dalton Pompey returns to starting lineup

(2:53 pm ET) Blue Jays outfielder Dalton Pompey returned to the starting lineup and is batting seventh for Wednesday’s series finale against the Red Sox, according to Sportsnet.ca.
Pompey has been sidelined since Monday with a neck injury. He is hitting .205 (15 for 73) with two homers and six RBI over 20 games.
Toronto is an underdog (+125) at Boston, per VegasInsider.com.
Report: Red Sox reliever Edward Mujica on hot seat

(2:46 pm ET) Embattled Red Sox reliever Edward Mujica could be on the verge of losing his roster spot, according to the Boston Globe.
Mujica has surrendered five earned runs on seven hits over 3 1/3 innings in his last three outings. His ERA rose from 2.70 to 6.30 in the process.
The paper is also reporting that while a roster move is expected to be made by Boston on Wednesday, it should not involve Mujica.
Rays 3B Evan Longoria has hit streak end at six games

(2:38 pm ET) Rays third baseman Evan Longoria was hitless in four at-bats Tuesday against the Yankees, ending his hitting streak at six games.
Longoria hit .565 (13 for 23) with two RBI, three doubles, one walk and five runs during his hitting streak. His hit streak came after Longoria opened the season in an 8-for-43 slump (.186).
Red Sox’s Mike Napoli returns to starting lineup vs. Toronto

(2:31 pm ET) Red Sox first baseman Mike Napoli returned to the starting lineup in the series finale with the Blue Jays Wednesday night, per the team’s official website. Napoli was sidelined since Sunday due to an illness. He is hitting .167 in 36 at-bats this season.
Boston is favored (-135) at home against Toronto, per VegasInsider.com.
Athletics SS Marcus Semien totals eighth multihit game

(2:29 pm ET) Athletics shortstop Marcus Semien totaled two singles in four at-bats Tuesday against the Angels for his eighth multihit game this season. He also had one run and one stolen base.
Semien is batting .360 (9 for 25) over his last six games following a 3-for-24 slump from April 14-21. He also has one double, one home run, three RBI, three runs and two stolen bases in his last six games.
Nationals recall Michael Taylor, Sammy Solis, option A.J. Cole

(2:15 pm ET) The Nationals have recalled pitcher Sammy Solis and outfielder Michael Taylor while optioning pitcher A.J. Cole back to Triple-A, the team announced.
In addition, Washington placed outfielder Reed Johnson on the 15-day DL with a calf strain. Cole started Tuesday’s game against the Braves and was rocked for nine runs in two innings of work. Taylor was sent to Triple-A roughly two weeks ago and was hitting .271 to start the year. Solis has appeared in three games this season in the minors with an 0-0 record and a 2.25 ERA.
Padres 2B Yangervis Solarte has five hits in last two games

(2:02 pm ET) Padres second baseman Yangervis Solarte has back-to-back multi-hit games for the first time this season, courtesy of a two-hit performance in a Tuesday loss to Houston.
Solarte singled in a run in the first and added another single and two walks. He has five hits in the last two games combined in raising his average from .283 to .346. with a surprising 12 RBI and fine .414 on-base percentage.
Astros 3B Luis Valbuena records first four-run game

(1:55 pm ET) At this rate, Astros third baseman Luis Valbuena will hit 45 home runs in 2015.
OK, that almost certainly won’t happen, but Valbuena continued to provide his red-hot team impressive production Tuesday night against San Diego. He didn’t homer, but he did double, single twice, walk and score four runs for the first time in his career.
Valbuena owns a .225/.291/.479 slash line with five home runs and nine RBI in 18 games.
Astros’ Carter homers Tuesday, extends hit streak to seven games

(1:37 pm ET) Astros first baseman Chris Carter hit a two-run homer off Padres pitcher Odrisamer Despaigne during a 14-3 win Tuesday. He finished 2 for 3 with one walk.
Carter has hit safely in seven straight games. He is batting .346 (9 for 26) with one double, two home runs, six RBI, five runs, five walks and seven strikeouts in that span.
