WR Devin Lucien is heading to Arizona State
Former UCLA WR Devin Lucien is staying in the Pac-12.
The former Bruin has signed with Arizona State. The Sun Devils were mentioned as a likely destination when news of his transfer broke in March. And now it’s official.
“I committed yesterday and signed my paperwork today,” Lucien said. “The relationship I have with Berco (ASU quarterback Mike Bercovici)… that is my guy, the need they have at the receiver position and me being a great fit there is why I decided to go there. I’m ready to come in and play right away, and the caches felt the same way so everything was mutual.
“Coach Graham was very excited when I committed. He told ne even before I visited that he wanted all my dreams to come true my senior year, and I know that he truly will help me achieve them. I know it’s a great school and I can get my master’s in Sports Law or Communications there. I know that ASU will put me in a position to get drafted high and get my degree on top of that. It’s just a great fit and I felt good about ASU for a while.”
He’s a graduate transfer, so he’ll be eligible to play immediately. And he may have a chance to play more at Arizona State than he would at UCLA. Lucien (29 catches for 225 yards in 2014) was third on UCLA’s team in catches and sixth in yards; all five of the players ahead of him in the yardage column are back in 2015.
Cameron Smith is Arizona State’s only wide receiver returning who had more than 20 catches last year. Jaelen Strong is heading to the NFL and is a likely early pick in the NFL draft and the team’s second-leading receiver was running back D.J. Foster.
Bercovici received substantial playing time in 2014 after Taylor Kelly suffered a foot injury.
