Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser Al-Khelaifi says his club will not consider any offers for striker Edinson Cavani.
In recent months, the Uruguayan has been linked with a host of clubs including Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Atletico Madrid.
Reports in France have suggested Cavani is unsettled and seeking a move away from PSG if he isn’t given the chance to play as a central striker, his preferred position. Speculation is the player also does not want to play second fiddle to Zlatan Ibrahimovic anymore.
However, in an interview with the French publication Le Parisien, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi said the club will not listen to any offers for Cavani because he sees the striker as a vital part of the team’s future.
“He’ll be here again next year,” Al-Khelaifi said. “We won’t even consider any offers.
“I’ve not met with him yet, but he’s still young, he’s the future of the club. He just needs more confidence, but he showed his talent in the last game.”
The club president was referring to PSG’s 6-1 win over Lille on Saturday which saw Cavani score twice while assisting another goal.
“Ibrahimovic will still be with PSG next season. There is no doubt about that,” the PSG president added.
“I don’t know what he wants after 2016, but we will discuss that at some point. I would like him to stay at PSG in whatever role suits him. We want to keep our star player here.”
Al-Khelaifi also shed light on the club’s interest in Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba.
Although the France international recently signed a contract extension until June 2019, his agent has stated the midfielder will leave the Italian champions “this year or the next” and Juventus themselves have admitted it will be difficult to hold onto the player if he wants to leave.
“Why did I meet with Pogba? Because he’s a great talent, he’s French and he’s from Paris,” Al-Khelaifi added.
“That said, all the big clubs want him.”
