Missouri pass rusher Shane Ray arrested for marijuana possession
Missouri DE-OLB Shane Ray, a possible top-10 pick, was reportedly arrested for possession of marijuana Monday morning in his hometown of Kansas City. Here is the arrest report from the Missouri Highway Patrol.
Ray’s stock is likely to fall — not only for this incident but also for a nagging toe injury that might need surgery and delay his healthy return to the field.
Before this week, Ray was seen as a possible top-10 selection in a deep crop of pass rushers. But he’s almost certain to slide now, given the uncertainty of his health and the arrest on Monday. More than the drug possession itself, NFL officials are likely to view this event — three days before the NFL draft — as a major act of stupidity.
Ray was cited for possession of 35 grams or less of marijuana and also for failing to drive in the right lane of the highway. No other information has been released on the arrest, which occured at 6:07 a.m. Ray was charged and released, per the Missouri State Police website.
*********UPDATE*********
Shane released the following statement on Monday night.
“I’d like to apologize to my Mother, Fans and prospective NFL teams for my poor judgement Monday morning. I am embarrassed and realize there are consequences for my actions. I was not under the influence nor impaired, therefore I was not detained. Fortunately, Mondays incident only resulted in a citation. I will make better choices in the future. It is imperative that I continue to strive to better myself. My future NFL career has been something I have always dreamed about and is very important to me. I commit that my actions will represent that. There are no excuses here and I will take the necessary steps to ensure this will not happen again. I will not jeopardize my ability to have a positive impact on and off the field moving forward.”
